Artist Statement
I am a fine arts painter working in oils, acrylics and watercolour. After a career at Queen’s Park in Toronto, I turned to my first love literature and I became a published author and poet. Then wanting to explore other facets of the art world I turned to painting and found joy in the many challenges this brought about.
Living close to the Rideau River I am offered on a daily basis such inspirational settings that have found a place in the various collections on my website. The play of light on water, herons, waterlilies and the ultimate Canadian scene sunlight on freshly fallen snow. I feel a personal connection to the beautiful swans that once made the Rideau River their home gracing us with their presence. My work in the “Swan Songs” collection pays homage to their beauty that was once a very important part of the river’s landscape. Also I am fortunate to have the opportunity to delve into my Mediterranean roots bringing warmth and vitality to my work. Those special memories and moments that are captured in photos.. the old patina on an espresso coffee pot, an ancient earthen pot placed near a doorway looking out to sea, water, the ocean, the Mediterranean are an inspiration points.
For me painting is a journey, to discover what can be translated from what the eye, mind and hand experience and to attempt to express that fleeting experience on a canvas. I feel very strongly that there is so much beauty in our everyday world and my aim is to share that vision of beauty with my viewers in a visual conversation. I invite you to step into my world rosemarieroyfineart.com.
